Louisiana State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners

Licensure

Licensure by Examination NCLEX-PN®

In order for a person to be considered for approval to take the NCLEX-PN® licensing exam, he/she must submit an LPN Initial Exam application and fee, via the Nurse Portal. The candidate must meet the qualifications for licensure, including completion of an accredited program in practical nursing that meets LSBPNE requirements.

Licensure by Endorsement

Endorsement is issuing a license to a nurse from another licensing authority, after determining that the applicant possesses the same standards that the state of Louisiana requires for a licensed practical nurse.

Verification of Licensure

Licensure indicates that an individual has met the minimum requirements of that state to practice.  To determine if a licensee possesses a clear and unencumbered active license, the verification process must be completed.

Nurse Licensure Compact

Allows RNs and LPNs to have one multistate license, with the privilege to practice in the home state and in other NLC states. Louisiana is now a compact state and will be accepting applications from Louisiana LPNs as of July 1, 2019.
